I hate the auto dive in this game. Every time I’m over water and I jump, Link has to tuck his perfect little body into a perfect little dive, and I just want to f***ing paraglide, bit oh no! gotta get those perfect dives. It doesn’t matter that I just completely missed the ledge I needed to get to, or that it’s raining in Vah Ruta land, because at least Link will get his perfect f***ing 10 for his dive. f*** this mechanic.

Lol I’ve been there. I’ve just gotten in the habit of hitting jump twice any time I’m around water so it will switch from dive to paraglider before you lose much altitude.

You can’t do both?

It’s not automatic. I don’t remember what triggers it, but it’s something about running towards the ledge, when you press the jump button,and IF you press the jump button.

And when you do all of those because you need to paraglide somewhere, it activates. Really frustrating.

Mess with run and jump buttons. You will find out what triggers the dive. Then you avoid it. Simple.

You can still paraglide just fine during the dive animation, what’s the issue?

His issue is that the same actions trigger a dive as would normally trigger a jump+glide, so when he’s trying to start flying he ends up diving instead.

The problem i have is that, despite immediately tapping to paraglide, the dive animation doesn’t cancel. Therefore, I end up starting my glide much lower than I need to.

How To Obtain Paraglider
Obtained By Clearing The Four Shrines On The Great Plateau
You can obtain the Paraglider from the Old Man on the Great Plateau. To receive it, you need to activate the Sheikah Tower and the Great Plateau. So you should proceed with clearing the shrines first.
Shrine Location
If you follow the Old Man at the beginning, he will guide you to the Oman Au Shrine. From there, he will introduce you to other shrines, so it’s best to start by exploring the ones nearby. Since Cold Resistance is necessary at some point, so don’t forget to obtain the Warm Doublet.
You Can’t Leave The Great Plateau Without The Paraglider
Without obtaining the Paraglider, it is impossible to leave the Great Plateau. If you try to leave the plateau, you will be forcibly returned to your original location so be careful until you have the Paraglider.

Use With X Button In The Air
The Paraglider can be used by pressing the X button while in the air. By deploying it from a high place, it is also possible to travel long distances.
Stamina Wheel Is Required
When the Paraglider is used, it consumes the Stamina Wheel and if the gauge reaches zero, the Paraglider can no longer be used and the player will fall. When the gauge is low, it is recommended to close the Paraglider using the B button for a while and then reopen it with the X button to conserve Stamina.
It Can Only Be Used With Some Elevation From The Ground
You cannot use the Paraglider to glide in a flat area even if you jump. However, if there is a height difference from the ground like a slope, you can use the Paraglider immediately after jumping by pressing the X button.
It Is Possible To Use It On Air Currents
In some maps, there are places where wind blows out from the ground. You can glide up quickly if you use the Paraglider after jumping in such places.
Can Be Useful For Horse Riding As Well
Creatures such as horses react to footsteps and may run away, but they are less likely to notice when you approach from the air using a Paraglider. You can use this to your advantage to easily catch horses.
