Did you know? Goodwill receives, repurposes or recycles more than 235 million pounds of donated items out of Colorado landfills each year. We are the “OG” recycler, and we’ve been keeping Colorado beautiful for more than a century.

By donating your gently used appliances, plates, silverware, decorations, shoes or clothing to Goodwill, you’re helping our planet by giving new life to those items. Did you know that Goodwill accepts any computer or peripherals (like printers, cell phones, tablets or scanners) in any condition, through our collaboration with the Dell Reconnect program? Beginning February 6, 2023, we are proud to once again offer home pick-ups of donated items, now through our partner, ReSupply. Please note this is a fee-based service. Here’s how it works:

- Schedule a day and time convenient for you; in many cases within 48 hours!
- Select the types of items you wish to donate and receive a real-time quote
- ReSupply will take any items in any condition, can disassemble furniture upon request and climb stairs, offering you more convenience and flexibility
- ReSupply is a veteran-owned and operated business; Goodwill is contracting this service with ReSupply. Goodwill does not receive any of the fees paid to ReSupply for home pick-ups.

Due to our commitment to safety and the environment, government regulations, and the high cost of disposal, we are unable to accept certain items. To help us steward donations and avoid frustration during your donation drop-off, know before you go! Check out our “can” and “cannot” accept lists below.
YES PLEASE! We gladly accept the following items in gently used, re-sellable condition:
- Books and media
- Jewelry
- Electronics (no televisions)
- Computers (or printers, scanners, or peripherals, working or not)
- Antiques and collectibles
- Shoes, belts and accessories
- Clothing and linens
- Furniture
- Household décor
- Lamps and light fixtures
- Musical instruments
- Crafts and crafting supplies
- Housewares and small appliances
- Sporting goods, games, toys and bikes
- Exercise equipment and accessories
- Hand tools and small power tools

NO THANK YOU! We cannot accept the following items:
- Televisions
- Gas cans or gas powered items that contain gas
- Broken, stained or worn furniture
- Paint, cleaning supplies, or other hazardous materials
- Mattresses, box springs, bed pillows, and water bed components
- Construction materials, plumbing or building supplies
- Automobile parts or tires
- Hot water heaters, water softeners, and furnaces
- Inoperable or damaged appliances
Here are a few tips to ensure your donation delivers the maximum value to your community:
DO:
- Separate clothing from household items in boxes or bags
- Wash or dry-clean clothing. Keep shoes paired with a rubber band
- Wrap breakable items in newspaper and place in boxes
- Test electrical equipment (wrap cords around items) and battery-operated items
- Include all pieces and parts to children’s games and toys
- Clean computer hard drives of personal/business information and include the operating system
DON’T:
- Leave items unattended outside a donation center
- Donate broken or soiled items

Donations and your taxes
Goodwill of Colorado is a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Click here to download the material donations receipt for you to list each item and assign it a value for every time you donate. Because no goods or services were provided in exchange for your material goods, your donations may be tax-deductible. Federal law states that donated clothing and household goods must be in “good usable condition or better” in order to qualify for a tax deduction. IRS regulations prohibit charitable organizations from establishing or affirming the value of contributions. Because Every tax situation is unique, please consult with your tax professional.

Does Goodwill Take Appliances – Updated Guide
Modern homes have all kinds of appliances ranging from fridges to washers and dryers. But before you go out and buy a new one, do you know if your old appliances will be taken by Goodwill? Does Goodwill take appliances? We all know that charities often get donations of furniture and clothes.
But when it comes to some items, it’s hard to tell. Hopefully, this guide will clear up all the grey areas for you.

Can you donate appliances to Goodwill?
People often upgrade their appliances and have no use for the old ones. So what happens when these appliances are no longer being used? The answer is very simple. Most of the time, they’re tossed aside and forgotten somewhere in a garage or basement. Well, you can turn these appliances into a very valuable donation. This leaves the question, does Goodwill take appliances?
For many years, Goodwill has been a charitable organization focused on helping the needy. They often receive donations of clothing and furniture from people who no longer have a use for these items. But when it comes to appliances, things are not so clear.
Some people wonder if Goodwill wants these donations. And if they do, what kind of appliances do they want? Goodwill only accepts small appliances such as microwaves, toasters, blenders and coffee makers. These should be in proper working condition before being donated. Large appliances such as refrigerators, washers, electric stoves and dryers are not accepted by Goodwill.
Here’s a list of what appliances they typically accept and don’t accept:

They do not accept any of these large appliances because of the costs involved. Goodwill can’t take these big appliances and then sell them for reasonable prices. This means that the donation would be a total loss for Goodwill.
Also, there are some regulations as to how these appliances are recycled, which could prove quite costly as well. So the short answer is yes, Goodwill does take appliances. But you’ll have to make sure they are small and easy to move.
Where else can you donate appliances?
There are many other places where you can donate your appliances. If you have a small appliance that is still in good condition and worth something, try donating it to a good cause. We have listed some places and organizations which will be able to use your appliance.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that focuses on rebuilding homes for low-income families. They provide housing aid to those who cannot afford a home of their own. They can always use donations, from home appliances to furniture and clothes.
You just have to call or email them to make a donation. Reach out to the organization and inquire about the best time and place to drop off the appliance. Your old toaster or blender could be the perfect replacement for a broken one in someone’s kitchen.
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is a Christian charity that carries out many social projects. They provide food, shelter, clothing and more to those in need on an individual basis. They also carry out many community projects that help others such as repair programs and disaster relief efforts.
If you have old appliances lying around, reach out to them via email or phone. You can find their contact information on their website. They also have many outlets and thrift stores that will accept your donations for free. Make sure that you are donating your appliance in good working condition.
St. Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent de Paul is a charity that helps out members of the community through social services, education and emergency assistance. They help people survive financially by providing emergency funds and emergency food to those who are in need. They also have thrift stores across the country, where they sell used and new goods.
Make sure to drop by the stores and inquire about your appliance. Your donation is tax-deductible and you will be helping a worthy cause. They take both small and large appliances in good working order and sell them to raise funds.
Vietnam Veterans of America
The Vietnam Veterans of America is a non-profit organization that provides services to veterans. They offer many programs which help veterans and their families get through tough times. If you are in the position to donate some small appliances such as microwaves and coffee makers, they will be extremely grateful.
You can even schedule a pickup with your local VVA office.
Local women’s shelter
Women’s shelters are organizations that help assist battered women. They are a great resource for women who have been abused and mistreated. You can always contact them and find out if they can put your donation to good use. Their facilities are often very basic and sometimes appliances are lacking.
Your donation will go a long way in giving these women the comfort they deserve.
